4th of July Breakfast

This morning we went to the annual 4th of July Breakfast at Uncle Steve's house. This is a tradition that I understand goes back a couple of generations. We look forward to it every year.

Everyone eats breakfast and visits and then it is time for the kids to gather.

They each get a plastic bag with their name and find a place in front of sand.

There are coins hidden in the sand.

Bill tried to teach Sandy how to sift the sand through her fingers to find the money. She failed to appreciate the importance of sifting and just put handfuls of sand into her bag. She got mad at Bill when he would try to shake the sand out of her money bag.

Just in case any of the kids clutching their bags of coins have any doubt of who their favorite uncle is, Steve pulls out the pinata:

Bill helped Sandy when it was her turn to hit the pinata.

Scrambling for candy.

Watching the pinata hitting.

What more could a kid ask for than going home with a bag of candy and a bag of coins?
