New Hat and Gloves

We got a box from Grandma Sherri today. Sandy found a new hat and gloves in the box as I was still pulling things out and wanted to wear them right away. She was in quite the posing mood when Bill pulled out the camera, so I thought I'd post a few pictures.

Yes, that is chocolate chip cookie all over her face! We'd just finished lunch when the box arrived.

Fun in the Snow

Update

Sorry, I guess I need to update everyone on how our ER adventure went.

Primary Children's hospital released us a little after midnight and we went home. Sandy and I slept in and then spent the whole day in our pajamas. She is doing great!

The pill she took is on a one pill can kill list -- I'm glad they didn't tell me that until they discharged us or I would have been even more worried than I was. I guess these little ones have such low body weight that the medication can drop their blood sugar so drastically that they are difficult to revive. When we first arrived at the hospital they put an IV port into Sandy's hand in case they needed to give her sugar through an IV.

We were lucky. She drank as much juice as she normally eats in a month and ate plenty and it kept her blood sugar high. Her blood sugar did drop to borderline in the evening, but it stayed (barely) above normal. So she really didn't have the scary reaction we were worried about... Which could mean all the juice did the trick. Or it could mean she didn't swallow the pill, after all, or only got part of it. It's hard to know.

But she's okay now, and I hope we don't have to do that again!

Another ER Adventure

Well, Sandy and I are at Primary Children's hospital for the night.

We went to visit an older neighbor and friend around noon. We hadn't been there 10 minutes when Sandy disappeared around the corner. I called to her, stopped long enough to apologize and say I'd be right back, and went after her. And found her with one of those pill-a-day organizers. Wednesday was open and she had her hand to her mouth. So, I instantly pried her mouth open and didn't find anything. Then I scooped up the pill organizer still containing two pills, searched the floor and found one pill on the floor, and went to ask my friend how many pills there had been. There were four, one was missing. It ended up being a 5-milligram glyburide, a pill for type 2 diabetes.

So I headed home and called poison control. And they strongly suggested I take her straight to the emergency room. Not at the IMC hospital like I originally said I'd be going to, but to Primary Children's. And they made sure I knew the ER would be expecting us because they would call ahead.

So we arrived, Sandy got an IV and lots of juice to keep her blood sugar up. And now we wait and they stick her finger every 2 hours to check her blood sugar.

Between this and my ER visit in September, we should meet our deductible for the year. Too bad the year is nearly over. On second thought, 2009 has been a rather rough year, let's just hurry up and get to 2010.

Birthday Dinner

We got together with the rest of the Buhler family last night to celebrate Bill and Eric's birthdays.

I made Bill's cake - it's devil's food with melt-in-your mouth vanilla buttercream frosting.

Just in case you are wondering, there are 33 candles on that cake.

Here is Eric with his cake. My sister-in-law, Julie, added a cup of sour cream to a chocolate cake mix. It was so moist, I'm going to have to try that.

Then she frosted it with cream cheese orange frosting, yum!

Nice Day

Sandy and Sage sitting on the back porch
enjoying the fabulous fall weather today.

It's such a nice day we had planned to go to the zoo with a friend. But then Sandy woke up with goopy eyes and we went to the doctor's office instead and learned that she has pink eye. So, we're stuck at home until she's been on the antibiotic eye drops for 24 hours. And Bill and I are dreading wrestling her three times a day to get the drops into her eyes.

Oh, and of course....

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BILL!!

New Toys

Bill got a new toy or um...tool: a multifunction unit that prints, scans, copies, and faxes. He was very excited when it arrived and immediately started setting it up.

Sandy immediately claimed the styrofoam packing material for her new furniture.

Halloween

Chick or Treat

Sandy dressed up as a chicken this year. We went to a Halloween party at the local community center a week before, a trunk or treat at our ward the night before, and grilled hot dogs in our driveway Halloween night. It was a fun Halloween season! Bill and I dressed up as farmers to corral our little chicken, but I didn't manage to get a picture of the three of us.

Sandy experienced trick or treating for the first time at the ward trunk or treat. We went to the first car, they gave her a candy bar, and she immediately pulled it out of her bucket and handed it to me to open. She did the same thing at the second car and I was ready to call it quits but somehow at the third car it clicked and she got the concept of holding out her bucket and leaving the candy inside.
