Graphic Design Goals

One of my goals since I've been staying home has been to learn some graphic design. It's something I enjoy and I figure it will make me more marketable if I need to go back into the job market. Especially if I were to freelance, it would be helpful to be able to do my own design as well as writing. So, here is my latest project.


Looking at it now, I might make a few changes, but overall I am pretty happy with how it turned out. Bill took the top picture at last year's Pioneer Day parade.

It's Unanimous

The City Council voted unanimously against a master plan amendment that would demolish homes in our neighborhood to expand a local nursing home. Hooray! All the work by our neighborhood has really paid off. Here are links to articles for anyone who is interested in more information.

Bill in the News and Pictures of Sandy

The big vote on the Villa expansion is tomorrow. Bill is quoted in tomorrow's Salt Lake Tribune (already posted online) about the latest developments.

On another subject, I've been trying to get a picture of Sandy's two bottom teeth. I didn't have very good luck, but if you look very closely you might be able to see part of them in this picture.


I didn't get her teeth in this picture, but she is almost smiling.


Here's a video of Sandy. I was once again unsuccessful in getting her to show her teeth, but I thought my mom might like to watch her climb around on the floor.

City Council Meeting

Bill, Sandy, and I went to our City Council meeting last night. It was a late night. I held Sandy for the first hour and a half. Bill held her for the last half hour and she fell asleep (she never falls asleep when I hold her!).

This meeting was about the St. Joseph's Villa expansion. Thanks to all who looked at the packet I posted on February 12 about this and for all the nice comments. I think the City Council meeting went really well. We had 145 people show up from our neighborhood to oppose the expansion (well, we're not really opposed to their expansion, just to them changing the master plan and demolitioning houses to expand). Both Bill and I spoke. The City Council will vote on March 24, so keep your fingers crossed for us.

Sandy's New Hat

I crocheted Sandy a hat. She wore it to church yesterday. Here are some pictures.

Project

Here is my latest project:




I put together a packet for the City Council explaining why our neighborhood is opposed to a local nursing home tearing down homes in our neighborhood for their expansion. There is a large group of neighbors involved and I had lots of help, but I did do the writing and layout (in Indesign). It was very satisfying. If you'd like to see it, you can find it here.

Primary Quarterly Activity

We just finished our Primary Quarterly Activity and I was really pleased with how it turned out. Everyone came in pajamas, we had breakfast, and then we had stations for Prayer, Journals, and Scriptures (P.J.S., get it?). All of the projects had a family emphasis since this year's Primary theme is My Eternal Family.

I worked on the scripture station. I gave all of the kids small laminated Family Proclamations to keep in their scriptures. I also had a scripture-a-day tear off calendar for them to use for personal or family scripture study. The scriptures follow the themes in the Primary 2009 Sharing Time Outline. I am really excited about how it turned out and plan to use one with Bill for our family scripture study. It was a ton of work, though, so it's kept me pretty busy the last month or so.

Bill stayed home with Sandy while I went to the activity. It was very helpful! It would have been a challenge to juggle the baby.

Only two adults came dressed in pajamas.


I liked having the kids divided up. I had about 8 kids each time.
