Stories

Yesterday, Sandy announced she knew what she wanted to be when she grows up.

A cowgirl.

I asked her what cowgirls do.

They ride horses, yell yee haw, and wear hats and bibs (she meant a bandana).

On Sunday morning, the girls watched this Veggie Tales, which is about Daniel from the Old Testament.

In Sacrament meeting one of the speakers spoke about Daniel. Partway through his talk, Sandy looked up from coloring and said, “He’s talking about Daniel, just like I watched on VeggieTales this morning.”

I was so impressed she was listening until she said, “So, I don’t need to listen to him anymore because I already know this story.”

Every time someone asks Sandy how old she is, and gets the answer, “I’m four,” Abby jumps in and says, “I’m five!”

Family Pictures

My dad came to visit and while he was here, he took family pictures for us.

Happy July

On the fourth of July, we went to the annual Buhler party at Steve’s house complete with digging for change in the sand:

Abby thought the goal was to throw back the coins and fill her bag with sand:

We also took the girls to see fireworks for the first time. They loved the fireworks but, even after a nap earlier in the day, it was just too late.

We went to the 24th of July Float Preview. The girls got their faces painted, balloon animals, and their picture taken with the Days of 47 Royalty.

Sandy's face is painted like a clown. That's what we thought she asked for, but apparently she was saying "crown." Oops. She was a good sport about it, though.

Here is a close up of Abby’s rainbow face:

June happenings

We spent the month of June on home improvement projects. We painted the family room downstairs and put in new carpet. We also painted the front room upstairs (after fixing some damage), added some cabinets, and ordered a new couch that hasn’t arrived yet. Some day I’ll get around to posting pictures of the finished projects. I also need to post pictures of Abby’s gigantic mess after finding a paint roller that was left out. But those pictures are on my cell phone which is MIA.

We also celebrated Grandpa Doug’s birthday:

I’m sure I have more pictures somewhere for June, I’ll come back and post them when I find them.

Happy Birthday, Sandy

_IMG_6016

Sandy’s birthday was on a Sunday this year. So we had our traditional birthday pancakes before church.
My mom was in town and it was so helpful to have her there to help with Sandy’s birthday.
Here is Sandy with the pinata for her party:

We bought this amazing pinata off a street corner for a very reasonable price. So, if you are looking for a pinata in or near Salt Lake City, I recommend you go visit the people on the corner of 2700 South and 400 East. Saturday mornings they sit outside and sell pinatas. I went a week early and asked them to make a pink dragon for the following Saturday.

When your dad works with computers all day, he uses electrical wire to tie the pinata up.

It was a sturdy pinata. After the kids each took several whacks at it, the moms and the grandma had to get involved.

But finally, the treats were released:

Then, there was cake and cupcakes and ice cream:

We celebrated early with Grandma and Grandpa Buhler because they were in Canada on Sandy’s birthday. Here is Sandy with her cupcake from that evening:

Abby’s Messes

Sandy made plenty of messes when she was two. Abby has kept up with her sister, but I don’t know if I’m as good at documenting them.

Mommy’s mascara:

But her latest mess is the biggest one either girl has ever made.

We have been remodeling and it has been a mess.

But we finally got the room done and painted. We stayed up most of the night to do it and one of the rollers got left out. The next morning I sat down for a minute and feel asleep (couldn’t have been more than 10 minutes). I woke up to a thumping sound and went out to find this:

Here’s a close up. I guess Abby decided we needed a newly painted floor to go with our newly painted walls.

And while she was at it, she painted the hallway.

And the kitchen.

Amazingly, we did get it all cleaned up. Of course, it did take 2 hours.
